History

Every church is shaped in part by its history, as well as the people who make up the church family.  Over the last few years Moorlands has changed dramatically as we have sought to be faithful to God's word in changing times.  We are committed to changing what we do and h ow we do it in order to be fruitful and flexible in our mission, and accessible to people who do not normally attend church.

Moorlands Evangelical Church was established in 1930 when a group of Christians in Lancaster began meeting in a building on the corner of Balmoral and Dumbarton Roads. After a number of years of declining numbers a radical fresh start and change of direction was needed and was made possible by the appointment, in March 2005, of Moorlands' first full time pastor.

The short term financial support for this initiative was raised by many churches and individuals who gave generously and prayed faithfully.  Some of these supporters are local, and some are in distant parts of the world, but all of them longed to see a straightforward and accessible Bible teaching church planted in the city of Lancaster, one that would, in turn, plant other churches.

Moorlands is now a growing congregation of like-minded Christians seeking to tell many people in the Lancaster area the good news about Jesus Christ.  However we are still in the early days of this new stage of life, and still depend on external support, both in prayer and finance, for our growth and ministry.  If you are interested in supporting this work please see our support section or get in touch.
