The Mid-Year Conference (MYC) is Moorlands’ annual student conference in January. It is suitable for every student and provides a special, concentrated time away from it all to study a part of the Bible, or aspect of the Christian life in more depth.

As well as learning from God’s Word MYC is also a great time to have fun and to get to know each other better. Every year we spend time thinking about a different biblical topic. Past MYC's have looked at sex, marriage and relationships, the Holy Spirit, the cross of Christ and Ministry.  As well as the main talks, each year there are also seminars which help us to apply the word of God to our lives.

All our past MYC talks can be found in our Audio Talks library.

MYC 2011: The End

MYC 2010: Ministry - Serving Jesus like Jesus

MYC 2009: The Cross Shaped Life

MYC 2008: Spirit of Truth

MYC 2007: God, Sex and Marriage

MYC was a great time to really get to know my church family better and be encouraged to keep going and striving to be more Christ like. I was really challenged by the talks on 1 Corinthians to use my gifts wholeheartedly to serve others in the church and also to work hard at chatting to, loving and serving the people I find hard to chat to or just don't know that well. It was great to tackle, what seemed to me, the scary topic of the Holy Spirit. I knew that God's word was challenging my preconceptions, making me clearer about how the Holy Spirit is intimately involved in proclaiming the gospel message and I went away more excited about the gospel and ready to explain to my non-Christian friends what they were missing out on, in serving an amazing, holy and loving God.

Reading Week

Reading Week is especially for students going into their second year. It takes place in September, just before the beginning of the University year and is a great way to start the year! Like our Mid year Conference, Reading Week is an opportunity to spend a week away from it all studying God's word together. The format however is different to MYC. Instead of upfront talks and seminars, we spend time studying a book of the Bible in small groups, we read and discuss a Christian book together and we listen to and discuss some stretching sermons. There is also plenty of time for relaxing, chatting, going for walks, eating great food and generally enjoying sharing in each others lives and getting to know each other better.  It's a week not to be missed!

Watch the video below to see some of the highlights from Reading Week 2010.

Reading week was a brilliant way to start my second year at university, putting everything into perspective before the busy-ness of Freshers’ week and getting my head stuck into God’s word. We were studying Titus and it was great to be reminded of the grace of the gospel shown to us that leads to godliness and the need to keep teaching this truth in the face of false teachers.  We also read through the book Distinctives by Vaughan Roberts and had a chance to chat through in small groups how we could in practice live holy lives. This was really challenging, especially thinking about the eternal perspective we should have as Christians and being content. It was also a great time to hang out with friends, encourage one another,  play cards, eat quiche and visit Ostrich world!! What more could you want in one jam packed week.
